On Jan 13, President Trump issued an executive order addressing the threat from securities investments that finance communist Chinese military companies. It says “Effective at 11:59 p.m. eastern standard time on November 11, 2021, possession of any such securities by a United States person is prohibited.”

Internet giants are at risk of being sued for acting as indirect agents of government power. Some argue that the protections of Section 230 also makes them indirect agents of the government. Cutting off free speech is a violation of the First Amendment guarantee of liberties, and therefore the companies might be subject to fines and penalties for violating the constitutional rights of their customers.
